SKPS Sensory Space Taking Shape
Mrs Z Balding, 15th April 2024
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS
'It’s really starting to take shape so will soon be able to take some photos to update you of the progress. The walls were painted the weekend before the Easter holidays, with help from two parent volunteers, using paint kindly provided by B&Q. We have received further monetary donations from two more parents too, which has been so appreciated, plus Mrs Wyatt has gifted us with some supplies for the room. I only had a chance to pay the money in to the bank over the holidays, but I have been busy spending! The PTFA money has paid for a gorgeous sensory tube light filled with bubbly water. That is being fixed to the wall tomorrow. We already have big squishy beanbags on the floor, mirrored stars on the wall, which I finished fixing in place about an hour ago! There’s a space-themed play tent, shelving, a YOto sound system that arrived today that will play a choice of either calming music or stories, a weighted blanket and a huge full moon decal that still needs to be stuck to the back wall. Hopefully that will be put in place tomorrow (Tuesday 16/04/24). I still need to add fidget toys and multi sensory floor spots, plus a wall panel of reversible sequin fabric. '

FUNDRAISING UPDATE
'At the end of last term, as part of our fundraising initiative to expand our mental health and well-being provision at SKPS, children were invited to donate £1 to wear their own clothes to school. We managed to raise £160 and this money will be used to fund the refurbishment of our ground floor sensory space.'
'We were thrilled to receive quite an unexpected additional injection of money from the PTFA. I would like to take the opportunity to thank them for offering to match our total, which now means that we will be able to equip and furnish the room with everything we need to meet the sensory needs of our pupils.'
TRANSFORMATIVE COLLABORATION
'We are so proud of the collaborative relationship that exists between the PTFA and our school. We would like to thank them for their tireless work and also extend our thanks to everyone who helps them, either by giving up their time or attending the events they organise. It really does make all the difference to what we are able to offer our pupils. Please do continue to support them in any way you can.'
'Work on the transformation of the room will commence next weekend with the painting of the walls. The paint has kindly been donated to us by B&Q, so a grateful thank you to them too. I will update you all with pictures of the transformation as it evolves and, of course, the finished result...so watch this space!'

Students x PTFA
On January 10th, PTFA and SKPS student group representatives convened for a meet-and-greet session. The focus was on understanding each other's initiatives and exploring collaborative possibilities. The session generated thoughtful ideas for events and activities aimed at raising awareness and funds for the school. Discussions included the logistics of event planning, and students were encouraged to promote the PTFA and begin organising activities for their respective groups. We are all excited by the potential of this partnership. Stay tuned for further updates.

PTFA Engagement & Event Activity Planning Session
On Dec 1st in the D&D Hub*, a small but perfectly formed group of PTFA volunteers came together (including the children, whose voices added so much enrichment to the process) to brainstorm potential events for the first half of 2024.
Using national calendar events as a starting point for thought generation, we broke into small groups and had 15 minutes to come up with as many ideas as we could in that time.
The groups presented their ideas back before each of us taking pause to review and reflect on the output. With three star stickers each, we voted for our favourite event ideas.
The outcome: You can see below all the fantastic ideas that blossomed and the clear winners that emerged to take forward.
